Kerala police on Tuesday seized around 300gm of MDMA worth approximately Rs 10 Lakh from a 29-year-old man who is native of Morayur in Malappuram district. The arrested person has been identified as Kakkattuchalil Muhammad Haris.
According to police the accused is learnt to be a key player in the drug peddling racket in the district.The drug was seized based on a tip-off received by District Police Chief Sujith Das that a gang was smuggling MDMA from Goa and Bengaluru and distributing it to their local customers in various parts of Malappuram district.
Malappuram DySP P M Pradeep, Inspector Joby Thomas and Sub Inspector Ameerali have been carrying out investigations surrounding drug peddlers in the district over the past one week. During a vehicle inspection at Melmuri, the officers seized the contraband from a car driven by Haris, who was reportedly transporting the drug from Morayur to Malappuram.”Haris is one of the main members of the drug peddling racket in the district. This group is based in Bengaluru. We have received information regarding more people involved in the racket. We will nab them soon,” said DySP.
“Haris is a Gulf returnee. He said he started to work for the Bengaluru-based group to make some money so he can return to the Gulf,” official added.
