New Delhi: Badminton player H S Pranoy and Tripple Jumper Eldhose Paul are among the 23 other sports persons selected for the prestigious Arjuna Award, 2022. Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2022 on Monday for outstanding performance in sports and games.
The Chennai native Achanta Sharat Kamal will receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the most prestigious sports award in the country. Achanta is the first table tennis player in the country who won the national senior championship ten times.
Prannoy was part of the India squad that won the prestigious Thomas Cup badminton tournament this year. He defeated Malaysia player Leong Jun Hao in the decider quarter-final match and ensured India reached the semi-final and obtain its first-ever Medal in the tournament. Pranoy once again proved his talent by winning another decider match in the semi-final against Denmark.
Eldhose Paul has become the first Indian to win the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games this year in Tripple Jump. He is also the first Indian to qualify for the Tripple Jump final in the World Athletics Championship.
The awardees will receive their awards from the President of India at a specially organized function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on November 30, 2022.
